You have an old sofa, bed, wardrobe or dining set that you are ready to replace — but what do you actually need to do to start a furniture exchange in Mauritius?

The first step is much simpler than many people expect. You do not need to transport your furniture to a showroom just to begin. The TFP Furniture Exchange process starts online: show us what you have, identify what type of furniture it is, and give us the information needed to contact you.

Starting your Furniture Exchange takes only three simple steps — and you can do it right now.

This guide focuses specifically on completing the online Furniture Exchange submission correctly, so TFP has the information needed to begin assessing your old furniture.

Step 1 — Take Clear Photos of Your Furniture

Your photographs are one of the most important parts of your Furniture Exchange submission.

TFP uses the photographs you provide as the basis for the initial estimated exchange value. Clear, complete and honest photos therefore help the assessment team understand what you have before the furniture is physically inspected.

How many photos should you take?

Aim to submit at least five photos. Five to six clear images from different angles will generally provide a much better picture of the item's overall condition than a single photograph.

Your photo checklist:

  • Full front view — show the complete item without cropping it.
  • Side view — photograph at least one side clearly.
  • Back view — useful for showing the overall construction and condition.
  • Interior or underside — particularly important for wardrobes, cabinets and upholstered furniture.
  • Overall-condition close-up — show the material, finish or upholstery clearly.
  • Damage close-up — photograph scratches, stains, tears, peeling, broken components or other visible damage.

Prepare the furniture before photographing it

You do not need professional photography. A smartphone and a bright room are enough. What matters is that the assessor can clearly see the furniture.

Give the item a basic clean, photograph it in daylight or a well-lit room, and remove anything that hides its condition. Take throws and decorative cushions off sofas, remove bedding from beds and mattresses, and empty wardrobes before photographing the interior.

Avoid filters or digital edits. The objective is not to make the furniture look newer than it is — it is to show its actual condition accurately.

Do not hide damage

Scratches, stains, torn upholstery, sagging cushions, peeling surfaces, damaged handles or other defects should be photographed clearly.

Showing damage does not automatically mean your furniture cannot qualify. In fact, honest photographs can make the process smoother because the initial estimate is based on a more realistic understanding of the item's condition.

Important: The value estimated from photographs is preliminary. The final confirmed exchange value is established following physical inspection and can remain the same or be adjusted if the actual condition differs from what was visible in the photographs.

Step 2 — Select the Correct Furniture Category

Once your photographs are ready, identify the type of furniture you want to exchange.

Choosing the correct category helps TFP understand what is being submitted and apply the appropriate assessment criteria from the beginning.

Furniture that may be submitted includes categories such as:

Sofas Beds Mattresses Wardrobes Dining Tables & Sets Chairs TV Units Coffee Tables Sideboards Office Furniture Other Furniture

If your item does not fit one of the named categories, select Other Furniture where available and describe the item clearly, including what it is, its approximate size and its configuration.

Your old furniture does not have to be from TFP

Your furniture does not need to have been purchased from TFP. Furniture from another retailer, locally manufactured furniture and imported furniture can all be submitted for assessment.

The programme is for furniture. Appliances, rugs, lighting and decorative objects are not Furniture Exchange categories.

Furniture with heavy mould, pest infestation, severe water damage or unsafe structural failure may also be ineligible regardless of its category.

What if you have several items?

Keep a separate set of photographs for each item and identify each item's category clearly. Depending on the current form configuration, you may be able to include multiple items or may need to create separate submissions.

Different furniture categories can have different campaign maximums and assessment criteria. Always check the current Furniture Exchange information when submitting.

Remember that an approved exchange value is applied toward the purchase of new TFP furniture — it is not paid to you as cash.

Step 3 — Enter Your Contact Details Carefully

Your photos show TFP what you want to exchange. Your category identifies the type of furniture. The final step tells TFP how to reach you.

Complete the contact fields shown on the current form. These may include your:

  • Full name
  • Mobile or phone number
  • WhatsApp number
  • Email address
  • Area or town

Complete all available fields accurately. TFP uses these details to communicate your initial assessment, request additional photographs or information where necessary, arrange physical inspection and coordinate the next stages if the exchange is approved.

Before pressing Submit: double-check your phone and WhatsApp number. One incorrect digit can prevent TFP from contacting you and stop the submission from progressing.

TFP will contact you after reviewing the submission. Response times can vary depending on campaign volume, so avoid relying on a specific response time.

What Happens After You Submit?

TFP's Furniture Exchange assessment team reviews your photographs and furniture category. If the information is sufficient, TFP can contact you with an initial estimated exchange value. If something is unclear, you may first be asked to provide additional photographs or details.
